Car issues whenever it is stopped

Hello everyone. I have a problem with my suzuki (2009) that occurs only when I drive it in traffic and reach a normal temperature. If I stop, the idle starts to pulsate around 2000 RPM, then settles high there. It gets to normal once I start driving the car. This repeats whenever I stop the car. The weird part is I don't get any codes. What could be the cause?

Make sure to give the IAC circuit and the coolant lines in the throttle body a good once-over to make sure they’re not clogged up. A few weeks ago, my Swift started idling erratically, and turns out a blocked coolant line was the culprit!

that’s gotta be annoying. Since you’re not getting any codes, I’d try the cheapest fixes first, check for vacuum leaks with a spray test (spray carb cleaner around hoses and listen for RPM changes) and clean the throttle body + IACV. Could also be a faulty sensor that hasn’t completely failed yet, like the mass airflow (MAF) sensor.

It could be a vacuum leak, throttle body issue, or idle air control valve malfunction. Even without codes, these can cause erratic idle behavior.

How many miles have you put on it so far?

Your Suzuki is having an idle control issue, but since there are no error codes, it’s a bit harder to pinpoint the cause. Even though it’s odd that no codes are showing, you could start by cleaning the throttle body and IACV, checking for vacuum leaks, or testing the sensors. If the problem continues, it might be a good idea to have a mechanic take a closer look with a more advanced diagnostic tool.
