How to Stop Rear Drum Creaking on My Swift

I’ve been scratching my head over this one and hoping someone can help. My partner’s 2015 Swift (zc72s, k12b) has this creaking noise coming from the rear drums, and it’s driving us nuts.

Here’s what’s happening: when we slow down to a stop, especially after driving for a while, there’s this creaking or rocking sound from the rear. It even happens when the car is parked, if I press the brake pedal, it makes a noise, like an old wooden floor creaking in rhythm. And if I stand at the back and rock the car back and forth, yep, the creaking comes right from the drums again.

So far, I’ve tried a bunch of stuff to fix it:
  • Got the drums turned.
  • Switched to new aftermarket brake shoes.
  • Greased the backplate contact points generously.
  • Adjusted the e-brake and even tried that reverse-and-brake trick to self-adjust.
Despite all that, the noise is still there. The brakes work fine, but the sound makes it feel like something’s loose back there. With only 40k miles on the car, I didn’t expect this kind of issue. Has anyone else run into this? Would really appreciate some advice on this, the noise is killing our vibe!

Based on your description, I think the issue could be with the springs or the hardware inside the drum assembly. Even if you have replaced the shoes, the springs can wear out or lose tension over time. This is how the creaking sound is created.
